Attribution is the way people explain the behavior of others with something else. Fundamental attribution error is over estimating dispositional explanations for someones behavior while under estimating situational explanations for that behavior. Which is why do people do something or act a certain way in certain environments.
Stereotype is a generalized belief about a group of people. Many people are put into stereotypes unconsciously by others. We see people and immediately judge them by what they look like. Some are good stereotypes that boost our ego and make us feel better, others can be demeaning and rash.
Personality
My personality has been most influenced by the environment that I live in. Growing up on a farm and being able to run around and do whatever has consequently affected me today. My friends have definitely influenced my personality because of the cliques we have formed and the social norms we must conform to. Also my involvement in sports and the activities I participate in. The defense mechanism I use most is reaction formation, if I have a big project due and I hear everyone say it’s taking them a long time I tend to underestimate it and suppress my feelings of punctuality by putting it off. In this chapter I enjoyed learning about many of Sigmond Freud’s theories I found many of them interesting and funny.
Chapter 9
The first thing I found interesting about this chapter was the heuristics we often use this technique to put something into our perspective, simplifying it for us to understand it. Teachers often try to do this too. There was also a funny joke about the New Jersey hunters that you should read. The second part that interested me was animal language I believe that all animals have they’re own language and way of communicating, most of it body language such as deer and their white tails, this always happens when they feel in danger. The last part I found was how quickly young children learn our language. By four months they start to babble, at twelve months they speak single words, and by two they speak in full sentences.
Chapter 8
Memory is very important in our lives. Memory is what allows us to function and learn. I think there are different kinds of memory because people who can memorize a whole phonebook aren't necessarily the smartest people in the world, I think the people that are can learn very quickly. If we didn't have memory we would not have to go to school because we wouldn't remember anything we learned anyway. Personally I think it would be intresting to live in a world where no one had any memory, life would deffintely be simpler. He is still Clive Waring, he still has a memory if it is only 20 seconds long. I don't really think differently about memory I found some answers to questions I had about my memory but it still astounds me how complex it is. I trust the memories that I have recently had but the ones from five to ten years ago, I just try to focus on the main parts because I feel I have forgotten alot of them. I think my brain tries to fill in the missing links with some of the short term things I remember. The part I found most intresting is echoic memory because this always happens to me. I'll ask someone a question about something I just heard and before they can answer, I see the word in head. Its weird how that works.
